Evolution of a meat eater

It started with chicken nuggets. Next, breaded pork (schnitzel) became appealing. Last night, we moved into the realm of non-breaded meat......pork chops.

This is a monumental day for the Jensen family........

Ibiza so far.....

It is a bad sign to be blogging about a trip while you are still on it.

Either you need to vent, or you are sick in the hotel.....well in this case it is both.

So, our trip started out nicely. We had plenty of time to prepare for our flight, which left at 6pm. We left the house clean. Had plenty of in flight activities to entertain ourselves and the kids. Things went smoothly. The luggage passed the weight inspection, the kids we civil and even happy when we landed in Spain.

At first we had trouble finding a Taxi that would drive a family, not enough seat belts. Right before we climbed into two different Taxis, Greg managed to talk a nice lady Taxi driver into driving us to our apartment, in one car. Upon arriving we were treated with hospitality and kindness, free drinks and towels to clean our hands and faces......wow never had that before.

The room was great, very clean and well maintained. We got the kids to bed, put up our feet and breathed out in relief. The hard part was over. Now we can enjoy our trip. Before going to bed I took a drink of the water from the tap. Yuck.....bad....very bad....... It tasted like Sodium Bicarbonate and left your skin tasting like salt after washing your hands......First thing on the agenda.....find some bottled water.

After breakfast (which was very tasty) the next morning, we decided to check out the beach, only 50 m from our place. Hmmmm.... a bit disappointing. The beach was piled up with mountains of seaweed and fronds from the palm trees. There were bulldozers displacing the piles, so when I say mountains......you can imagine what I mean.......We let the kids play for a bit until,Greg started to feel sick, so he took the kids back the apartment, while I went on a journey, on foot to find water......We would try the beach later, or find another one.

We had passed about 5 Supermercados on our little morning walk, so I returned and traced our path. After an hour of walking, I still hadn't found a mercado that was opened. In fact, all of the stores were boarded up, store owners working outside to prepare their shops for the summer season, which starts next week. I knew the locals have to eat, so I kept walking, determined to bring back water....and a diet coke.....In the end, I passed about 10 closed stores, until I found one that was open.

Also, on my walk, I passed the water park, which was our go-to-plan, if the weather was bad. Closed too.....until may, when the season starts. Maybe that is why our tickets were so cheap.....ya, probably.

After re-hydrating, Greg was feeling better so, we checked out the pools. One of the reasons why we chose this Hotel, was for the pools, its two kiddy pools. The pool water was about as salty as the tap water, but only colder. The kids ran around the pool chasing each other with a squirt gun. Maybe the water would warm up later in the day.

We ended the day with a movie, dinner in our apartment and a plan for the next morning. We would rent a car, hit the famous "hippy market," see some caves and the old town.

Our plan for the morning changed when Greg and I woke up with upset bellies. It was a little tricky to be sick at the same time, but at least we are two grown adults, who can manage themselves. Our long night was compounded, but the very loud crowd gathered outside our window. The mob was chanting and banging, garbage can lids, and marching up and down the street. I didn't fall sleep until 4am, when the crowd had dispersed.

The next morning, Greg was the hero of the day, when he took our the kids to breakfast and let me sleep for a couple more hours. He wasn't feel good either, but pushed through his weakness and nausea. He even took the kids to a souvenir shop and go them something to do in the hotel while we recovered.

The afternoon passed with more movies, and naps for mom and dad. Upon waking, the sun was high in the sky, we would try the pool again. This time we had success. The kids and Greg braved the icy waters. I laid in the sun, with a diet coke in hand. This is what we came to do.

The trip is now on an upswing. It is a day three and we are back to normal. The kids are now begging to go swimming. Greg is going to check out rental cars. So......maybe we will venture out of our hotel and actually see the island.
