Today Greg left for Bulgaria. For some reason the first day is the hardest. I guess I am a whimp, or maybe just knowing that I am on my own for a while makes the task seem daunting.
Sadie woke up moaning....wimpering....complaining that she was sick. With her it is tricky. She gives us a play by play of every bodily function, so it is difficult to know when to believe her. Yesterday she complained of not being well and she stayed home from church. As soon as I was out the door, she looked at Dad and said, "I like being sick, because I get to watch movies and stay home from church." Yup, nothing was wrong with her....
Today I didn't believe her. I forced her out of the house and we proceeded with errands. After a lot of whining and nearly dragging her from the post office and to the bank, I gave up and we headed home. One the way, she started a temper tantrum that continued the entire drive, up the stair case and into her bedroom. It carried on for about nearly 30 minutes. Meanwhile, I am thinking that something was seriously wrong with my child and started looking up numbers for the behavioral pediatrician and parenting classes. After the screaming, I came upstairs to talk things over. I found her glassey eyed and red in the face, with a 102 degree fever. Great.....
Add some guilt on top of the frustration.
I had also signed up to take a meal for a sister at church who just had a baby. Now things got complicated. I couldn't face taking three kids to the grocery store for some decent ingredients, especially with sick Sadie on the brink of imploding. So...what to do........? Top Ramon? Scoobie Doo Mac and Cheese? Instant Oatmeal packets? Ah....call the pizza place my sister and her husband discovered while they were visiting. Nice.....they have a website. I ordered two pizzas and a salad and scheduled the delivery for 4pm. Phew....
We drove the food over, I left the kids in the car (Sadie was asleep by now), and felt pretty good about trying to do some service. On the way home, we did a drive-by at McDonalds. Sadie woke up to the smell of french fries and a huge desire to pee. Sheesh can 't you give us some warning girl? We pulled over and did the deed on the side of the road....(when in Rome do as the Romans....). We made it home at 5:30.....what now....two hours to kill.
Baths, lego batman, call grandma, throw in a couple of fights and a couple of consequences to go with them, a time out or too for mommy, and we slide into home plate at 8pm.....phew.....
Can't wait to do it again tomorrow.....

I would be ecstatic if someone brought me pizza and salad. It honestly would make my week; good job! That was a good call. I wouldn't have thought of that.
That's tough Greg's gone, again. Hopefully the week flies by and kids start to feel better.
ALSO, yippee for a treadmill! Todd said it was pink, so I was picturing a Barbie treadmill, but a bit of pink scattered here and there is actually quite fun. When do you get it?? I'm vicariously excited for you to have a treadmill. Now you just need a TV with DVD player and Ugly Betty and other such fun TV series. :)
Oh girl!! I so hear you!!! What a good job on saving the day w/ a pizza!! Perfect. Good luck!
Oh man, that is a serious day. Let me tell you that I do pizza every single time I'm supposed to bring someone something. That may not be exactly what they were wanting, or I figure they may really enjoy the break from strange homemade foods they're not used to. Good luck with the sickies today!
Sorry nic - wish I could have your kids over and give you a break - maybe someday....
on another note - Happy Anniversary - hope you guys get a chance to celebrate when greg is back!
I think Sadie is sick because she worked herself into it over the loss of her playmate! If only, right?
Argh, I hated those days/nights. You do too much though. I don't do meals at all anymore for church. I just finally told myself my season for that will come. With our husbands' schedules and life as it has been, it's enough to get our own family fed!
There will be a season in life when you can feed people every other night of the week. Just not now!!!
Next time, skip the sign up sheet and just bring some flowers on your own time when you get the idea and the moment!
Oh the joys of parenting, huh? Right now Aurora is pulling at me and yelling because she thinks the 15mins I've been on the computer is more than enough time..sigh.. :D Kids are great though! I did the whole pizza thing for a meal once aswell, because my baby was sick. Who doesn't like pizza?! Works great! Nice save girl! :)
I am so sorry for your day! I think pizza and salad is a wonderful dinner to give someone after they've had a baby! I really hope Sadie feels better soon!! (I've totally not believed Sophie a few times when she was in actuality really sick - I hate that guilt, but how are we suppose to know when they fake it so often??)
