My favorite part of the day is walking to the school bus. On the first day of school for Micah, the weather was perfect for our morning stroll. It is always fun to chat, and to look for snails and slugs. Sadie spotted this enormous snail, next to his slug cousin.

Micah was excited and ran ahead of the pack.

Waiting for the bus. This is a city bus stop and the kids ride a tourist type bus, with a German bus driver, no little yellow school buses over here. The bus stop is on a main drag through town, which heads to the freeway. Cars zoom by on the way to work and there is no law to stop for school buses. Three American kids were hit by cars at a bus stop last year! I have a huge problem with that. An American kid was hit and killed two years ago. So, I am constantly pulling kids (mine and others) away from the edge of the sidewalk. Micah is old enough to walk to and from the bus stop, but I will never allow it, because of the danger.
Okay, I will get off of my soapbox now.....

This morning was Sadie's first day of school. At Landstuhl elementary, the Kindergartners start a week later, so the teachers can visit all of the kids in their homes. It was nice to meet the teacher early, but it was sure a long week.
Sadie was so excited to ride the bus. I think so that she could sit next to her big brother. Micah was less thrilled. I was a little nervous for her to get to her class on her own, but we put Micah in charge of helping her. I almost hopped into the car to meet her at school, in fact.....I could still make it if I left right now.....
Of course the weather put a damper on things. It was pouring most of the morning and we didn't get the greatest pictures, but of course, the kids were excited to get to use their umbrellas.
So, Taylor and I are all on our own. It is time to get into toddler mode and get playdates and park trips lined up. But I think today we will make a trip to Ikea.....since Taylor is now three and nearly potty trained!!! Yippeee.....!

I hope you like putting together all your Billy shelves, if that is indeed what you got. I quite love mine.
That bus business sounds HORRIBLE. Oh my. I would not let mine walk alone either for sure. Good luck with that.
Funny to be at home with only one again, eh?
Ah! I am NOT looking forward to k being out of the house all day next year and having only me and bb D. Hmmm, I'll have to keep up with how you spend your time. For now, I love having K home half the day along with the baby.
Wow, your last year there. Are you ready to come back to the mainland? One year after that and you're in civilian care. What are your thoughts/hopes for that?
i've been thinking about ikea now, too, now that s is out of diapers. it's much more appealing that way. :) hope they're enjoying school this year. j LOVES kindergarten!
